Steps for Dental Implants: A Guide for International Patients – Flexible Scheduling and Streamlined Process
Dental implants provide a long-lasting solution for missing teeth, restoring function and aesthetics. At Smile and Shine Dental Clinic, we understand the need for flexibility in travel schedules, and our process is designed to accommodate international patients, allowing visits spaced up to a year apart.
This guide helps you plan your trips efficiently, so your treatment process is as smooth as possible. We recommend sending your 3D X-rays, medical history, and photos in advance to contact@ssdc-dental.com. Consultations are preferred via email, Line@official, or Facebook Messenger, with email being the most preferred method of communication.
Steps for Dental Implants
Step 1: Remote Consultation and Pre-Treatment Planning
Duration: No Visit Needed
Before your first visit, please send:
- 3D X-rays.
- Medical history.
- Photos of your teeth and oral condition.
By sending these in advance to contact@ssdc-dental.com, we can remotely assess your case and create a detailed treatment plan. This saves time during your in-person visit and ensures that everything is well-prepared.
Preferred communication channels: Email (most preferred), Line@official, and Facebook Messenger. We do not require video or phone calls.
Step 2: First Visit – Final Consultation, Digital Scan, and Temporary Restoration (If Applicable)
Duration: 60 minutes
During your first visit to the clinic, we will:
- Finalize your treatment plan during a consultation.
- Perform a digital scan for computer-guided implant planning.
- Place a temporary restoration if needed.
Temporary restorations are provided for full-mouth cases and anterior teeth to ensure aesthetics and function. For single posterior teeth, temporary restorations are not typically used.
This visit lasts around 60 minutes, and after 3-7 days, we will proceed with the implant surgery.
Step 3: Second Visit – Implant Surgery and Temporary Restoration (If Applicable)
Duration: 3-7 Days After First Visit (Up to 3 hours)
In this visit, we will:
- Surgically place the implants using computer-guided technology.
- Fit a temporary restoration for full-mouth or anterior cases (if needed).
For single posterior teeth, we proceed without temporary restorations. The surgery typically lasts up to 3 hours.
Step 4: Third Visit – Recheck and Follow-Up
Duration: 7-14 Days After Surgery (15 minutes)
About 7 to 14 days after surgery, we will schedule a quick follow-up visit to ensure everything is healing well. This check-up takes only about 15 minutes.
Step 5: Healing and Osseointegration
Duration: 4-12 months
During this phase, the implants will integrate with your bone in a process called osseointegration. This phase can take 4-12 months, depending on individual healing rates. You can plan your next visit anytime between 6 months to 1 year after surgery to proceed with the final restoration.
Step 6: Abutment and Final Prosthesis Placement
Duration: 7-14 Days
Your next visit involves placing the abutments (which connect the implants to the crowns) and taking digital impressions for the final prosthesis. Depending on the complexity of your case, the final prosthesis (crowns or bridges) will be placed within 7-14 days. This allows for high precision and customization to match your needs.
Step 7: Long-Term Follow-Up and Maintenance
Remote Follow-Up + 1 Visit per Year (Recommended)
We provide all the necessary information for you to maintain your dental implants at home. However, it’s best to return annually for a professional cleaning and check-up at our clinic to ensure the long-term health and success of your implants.
